Lisa Learner received a B.F.A. from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University and a Master's in Fine Art from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983. After teaching at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Tyler School of Art, the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the University of the Arts; she joined the faculty at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pennsylvania, where she was Assistant Professor of Fine Arts. Currently she teaches at Delaware County Community College.
Ms. Learner's paintings have been exhibited nationally, and are seen widely throughout the greater Philadelphia area. Solo exhibitions include Gross McCleaf, Lannon's, and the David David galleries. Other one woman show locations have included: the Philadelphia Museum of Art restaurant, the Philadelphia Country Club, the lobby of One Commerce Square in Philadelphia, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, and the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum.
Her paintings have been included in group shows at the Pennsylvania State Museum, Philadelphia's City Hall, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the U.S. Artist Show at the Philadelphia Armory, and the Wayne Art Center. Lisa's artwork was selected by the realist painter Janet Fish to hang in the Woodmere Museum in Chestnut Hill, PA, and by Neil Welliver for a show in the Wichita Center for the Arts in Kansas.
She was included in the "New American Realism: Mentors and Protégés" show at the Vose Gallery on Newbury Street in Boston, MA; "A Diversity of Views, Artists Look at the Land" at the American College in Bryn Mawr; showed with "Art on the Line" at the Main Line Art Center in Haverford, and "Life in Delaware County as Seen Through the Eyes of the Artist," at Delaware County Community College in Media, PA. Her paintings have also been exhibited at the Sommerville Manning and Carspecken-Scott Galleries in Wilmington, Delaware; the Bennett Gallery in Knoxville, TN; the Magidson, Robley, and the Perlow galleries in New York; the Gallery at the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and many other locations.
Lisa's painting "Final Departure" was reproduced in Prentice Hall Publications' High School textbook on literature, along with paintings by Edward Hopper and Georgia O'Keefe. Several of Lisa's oils were also chosen for the book "New American Painters", published by Open Studios Press.
